The vas deferens (aka ductus deferens), is a muscular tube which travels in the spermatic cord. After passing through the inguinal canal and into the abdomen, it loops around the lateral side of the inferior epigastric artery and crosses the pelvic brim, deep to the peritoneum. The vas deferens passes anterior to the ureter to reach the posterior surface of the bladder, where it is closely related to the vas deferens of the opposite side. Each vas deferens dilates (the ampulla) before being joined by the duct of the corresponding seminal vesicle.
