  • Common during childhood & adolescence
  • 6-16% of boys & 2-9% of girls under the age of 18 have this condition
  • Youth with conduct disorders cost society and receive significant public attention


  1. Repetitive and persistent pattern of behaviour in which the rights of others or major age-appropriate societal norms are violated as manifested by 3 of the following criteria in the past 12 months and 1 of the criteria in the past 6 months
    • e.g., Aggression to people or animals
  2. Disturbance in behaviour causes clinically significant impairment in social, academic or occupational functioning
  3. If the individual is age 18 years or older, criteria are not met for Antisocial Personality Disorder

Possible etiology

  • Harsh punitive parenting characterised by severe physical or verbal aggression
  • Chaotic home conditions
  • etc.



  • Address the problem early rather than later
  • Place in a long-term supportive environment with consistent fair structure this may require removal from the family
