Electron beam computerized tomography (CT) scans provide a noninvasive ischemic heart disease test by means of detecting coronary calcification, the presence of which is strongly related with coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis. Scans can also be quantified with the amount of calcium proportional to the burden of atherosclerosis within the coronary vessels. The sensitivity is quite high, though specificity is approximately 70%.
