Bioavailability (F) is the proportion of drug that reaches the systemic circulation in an unaltered form following administration by any route, commonly measured by the area under a blood concentration-time curve (AUC). For an intravenous dose of drug, it is assumed that bioavailability is complete (F=1).

Bioavailability can be affected by several factors, the two main factors being the first pass effect and incomplete absorption.
