Amoxicillin is an antiinfective aminopenicillin antibiotic that is well-absorbed from the oral route much better than ampicillin. A common formulation is amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, though extensive overuse has contributed to the development of bacterial resistance, especially in hospital-acquired (iatrogenic) infections. Several other analogs exist and are similar to amoxicillin.
