Alpha adrenergic antagonists are pharmacological agents used for the management of hypertension. They are excellent drugs that act as adrenergic antagonists, specifically focusing on α1. The drug is effective for the treatment of dyslipidemia, peripheral vascular disease, and prostatic hypertrophy. They also do not exacerbate insulin resistance or hyperglycemia.

Caution should be taken to watch out for postural hypotension, especially in diabetics. The risk of first dose orthostatic hypotension is rescued by initiating therapy with small doses at bedtime and by using the longer acting drugs. Some patients also complain of nasal stuffiness. For various reasons, this drug is not recommended as first line treatment.
