  • failure to recognise stimuli when the appropriate sensory systems are functioning adequately
  • Can detect the parts, but not the whole, such as with prosopagnosia, where the patient cannot identify people by their faces


Visual agnosia

  • lesion of the visual association areas

Tactile agnosia

  • lesion of the supramarginal gyrus

Auditory agnosia

  • bilateral lesions of the post part of the superior temporal gyrus
