I was promptly ravaged by my companion. Most war criminals love their children, he reminded me, and are tender to their wives, husbands, friends. He reminded me that they love to play basketball.
The Dahiya is a teeming slum in Beirut, targeted during the war for being a "hotbed of support" for Hezbollah. As we walked through it, every corner we turned was a lesson in destruction, dwarfing the previous lesson from the previous corner.
